The expandable bag is completely flat when not in use. When shoes are inserted a gusset expands the bag creating ample space for a pair of shoes or even sneakers. Shoes are kept away from clean clothes in your suitcase. This is a pretty practical solution!

The expandable bag can be made from quilting cotton, lined with a waterproof fabric like Oxford lining.
Ripstop is a great choice for the bag as it can be wiped clean.
A third option is to insert clear gussets along the side so that the inside is visible.
